PERFORMANCE:One of my complaint with the unit is it's picture quality. The LCD optics on the headset has a lower resolution than your standard TV (so the picture is blurred to compensate for the decrease resolution). In terms of color, sharpness and refreshrate. Not that it's the headset's fault, regular CRT is better than LCD but trust me you don't want a CRT right in front of your eyes. You have two choices of video modes Standard or "3D stereoscopic" (discuss in next section) and you can choose "see through" or "Opaque" pictures. The headset has a plastic flap that you can attach in front of the optic to make it dark (same concept as sunglasses/shades). This creates a more immersive experience because you can't see your surrounding in the picture. When you take the flap off you can see through the glasses to your surrounding. The video will appear transparent and seem to float in space. Here's a photoshop simulation As I said before the resolution is not as high as a standard tv so some things get alittle blurred out. In games with small text you wouldn't be able to make it out. The color is not as "rich" as a stand CRT but if you adjust some of the video setting on the iglasses it's alright. Here's some comparison of how
the video looks on a TV and the Iglasses. BIG SCREEN TV AND PORTABLE DVD?:Yes, you can do that but for the not-so-great picture quality and cost it's not worth it. You can get a REAL 50" for the $499 instead. And I hope you folks don't get fooled into that ad they got about the "Portable DVD player with VR headset combo package". For $1400+ It's just a technology show piece. Can you imagine someone walking down the streets or in the subway wearing the I-Glasses and watching DVD? The dope will either trip and fall into the train tracks or be a "snatch and run" victim :) THE GAMES:How does this run on games? I can only truely recommend you play 3D/first person games such as racing and flying or games that don't have much small text (or ones where those text don't make any difference). Since it's NTSC video I tested the games on my PlayStation. While all games work, playing 2D type games on a VR headset is kind of pointless and bland. I tested RIDGE RACER TYPE 4, ACE COMBAT 2, NEED FOR SPEED 4 and a couple of other driving games. I tried using TV out from my PC equipments and playing Quake 2 and Ultimate Race Pro and it's just not that good mainly most Tv-Out devices on the PC sucks and don't full up the entire screen. For optimal immersion into the game you'll need to make your room as dark as you can (perferablly pitch dark). The field of vision is only 30 degrees so it's alittle bit like looking out of a tunnel. (That's not the fault of the I-Glasses but just the limitations of current NSTC video) Despite a little tunnel vision you'll get use to it once the lights turn green and you hit the accelerator button. After playing Ridge Racer for about 20min and taking off the headset and turning on the lights, I was disorientated for about 20 seconds. What does that mean? Well it means the I glasses do have some merit for a little VR experience. Advice, If you're able to afford the $499 for the I-Glasses I suggest putting an extra $50 bux for one of those steering wheels for your driving game. It's a much more complete VR experience. With or without the aid of a steering wheel playing racing games is a pretty cool experience with the I-Glasses. Don't get me wrong it's not THAT great either. There is a 3D mode you can switch on but unless the game specifically support the feature, the picture will kind of strain your eyes (kind of looks a cross between a 10fps drop and motion blurr) As far as I'm concern I DON'T KNOW OF ANY GAME THAT SUPPORT THE 3D FEATURE The 3D feature itself is nothing short of IMPRESSIVE.
